SIG Sauer P250 [renders] by BringMeASunkist SIG Sauer P250 [renders] by BringMeASunkist
Spent a good amount of the weekend discussing firearms with :iconeverlastingabyss: and it inspired me to make another weapon. This is a SIG Sauer P250 with tactical flashlight based on my personal reference: [link] I loathe the gun's trigger pull and have been toying around with the idea of selling it so I thought I'd complete a model before it's gone.

Project served as an opportunity to sculpt micro details in nDo2 and 95% of the texture was done in Quixel's new dDo Beta. And a special thanks to :iconamaterasu111: for help with material definition.

***EDIT: A lot of people have been asking about softwares. It was modeled in Maya, textured in Photoshop and rendered in Marmoset Toolbag. If anybody has any questions regarding workflow, PM me!

Mind blowing craftsmanship. I can imagine how cool is that if this is on Leon's hand! (in the game Resident Evil)

Nice! Do you have a wireframe? I'm being a bit nitpicky but where's the hammer? When people resort to nitpicking that means it's good ;)

Hey bud, here's my wireframe: [link]

And about that hammer you mentioned, there is a hammer but it's not visible from this angle. The SIG P250 is a "double-action only" pistol, meaning the hammer cannot be cocked. As a result, the hammer recedes into the back of the slide. Here's a picture from my personal reference: [link]

And I appreciate nit-picking! We, as artists and human beings, do not improve without criticism

Great work!
How did you create, this nice texture like rubber on the grip?
I nowhere find a texture like that, and to make an own one, my skills in PS or something like that are terrible:)
Meaby you can give me a tip, the texturing is this part, where my model begins to look ...
Hope you find some time to answer this, it would be great!
Cheers

Wow. Your textures are amazing! As is your lighting. How do you get your renders to look so fantastic? My renders always suck, which discourages me from posting my 3d work online.

How long does it usually take you to do something like this?

Thanks a lot bud, gauging the time on this one is tricky because I did it all in my spare time (meaning days when I get home from work and feel like creating art) and then I retextured it a couple weeks later when Quixel released its new dDo. Seen here is the dDo texture. But I'm not sure how long it takes me to do it, maybe two weeks? Which is entirely too long if if I wish to succeed in the industry professionally.

why does the texture look so cloudy?
Reply
:iconbringmeasunkist:
BringMeASunkist Featured By Owner Nov 9, 2012  Professional Digital Artist
Are you asking why or just stating that it's cloudy? If you asking, I'd argue that all metal wears unevenly; especially guns that are subject to routine oil from fingers and maintenance. If you're stating it's *too cloudy, then perhaps I need to revisit this...

I see what he means and I have to agree. Even with the fact that the metal wears, I don't think it wears enough so the texture needs this much grunge. Your grunge pass is awesome but I think it'd look even better if you would tone it down a little. Something that looks a bit unnatural also is the scratches you have on the metal. The ones you have on the corners are perfect but the ones you have on plane surfaces don't look natural at all! Which surprises me because in your previous gun model, they were perfect.

Still a great model! Oh and the gun's grip looks awesome this time! :)
